The Kenbrook Koalabotz were created this year in an effort to launch FIRST LEGO League and FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams, by a dedicated group of Kenbrook Elementary School parents with financial support from Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation and the Kenbrook PTA.
The FIRST LEGO League and FIRST LEGO League Jr. are exciting programs that teach team members to apply science, engineering, and math concepts (plus a big dose of imagination!), to develop solutions to real-world challenges. FIRST LEGO League Jr. Teams design, build, and program models using Lego WeDo 2.0 sets, and FIRST LEGO League teams design, build, and program Lego Mindstorms robots to perform autonomous “missions” on a playing field. Along the way, members develop critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.
This year, the challenge themes are “Aqua Adventures” and “Hydrodynamics.” Each team is invited to research and explore elements of the human water cycle. Students are asked to explore how they get the water they use in their daily lives – whether it’s the water they use to brush their teeth, quench their thirst, cook food, or even take a swim!
